What's In the Beef You May Be Eating Antibiotics, added hormones, feed additives, flavor enhancers, age-delaying gases, salt-water solution, mad cow disease, food borne bacteria and E-coli -0157:H7. Other than that, it should be alright... Do you think I'm making this up, exaggerating, stretching the truth? "Today's industrialized process brings cattle to slaughter weight in just one or two years. But it reduces the nutritional value of the meat, stresses the animals, increases the risk of bacterial contamination, pollutes the environment and exposes consumers to a long list of unwanted chemicals."...from the aricle by Jo Robinson, "What you Need to Know About The Beef You Eat"...found at...Http://www.motherearthnews.com/print-article.aspx?id=123584. ![]() Most all our foods have become tainted. I eat some fish, no other flesh foods unless it is 'incidental' in a restaurant meal and I can't pick it out. Vegetarian for 35 years, though it didn't prevent me from being overwhelmed by the big 'C' disease. |

True story, nicely put, James. My family has gone completely organic, and fortunately have organic beef, chicken and pork available for use within 100 miles. We have also gone organic with regards to fruits and veg, and have stopped consuming exotic fruits with big environmental footprints. Cut down on daily milk consumption, because of hormones, and as a result of all the foregoing, are much healthier, and I have lost my arthritic pain. The Corporations are starting to suffer as more and more of us "get with the programme." Namaste Jim Sutra 30: Language reflects the Truth of one’s Reality: listen carefully when others speak. |

Thank you Midnitesun and AncientHippie for the wonderful responses...I'm not a vegetarian but my second son has recently told me that he is becoming one...I'm reading to educate myself on the subject of food and find it a very interesting subject...James |

Personally I live in a lot more fear of the man, boy, woman, girl I meet on the street, in the stores, parking lots, driving cars, etc., than I do of the food I eat. Rampant crime is killing, maiming, injuring a lot more people than "tainted" foods. Far as I know, no one died from "what's in the beef" last night, but several people died from drive-bys, family volience, car crashes... So, give me my "tainted" foods - I'm 66, pretty healthy for my age - eat raw meats/seafoods of all kinds, including hamburger and have all my life (I do admit that's sorta playing russian roulett but not because of anything man has put into it)and have know/met a number of people that do/have done so without ill affects, and will continue to do so...if I get sick from it, I'm not going to sue the farmer, rancher, corporation that produced it --- especially for my cancer, if I ever get it, or stroke, or heart attack or whatever. You may like your so-called 'organics', but me, BRING ON THE BAD STUFF! It's cheaper, no less falsely advertised and d e l i c i o u s! By the way, I've personally known at least two people who've died way before me (since I'm still kicking) that were "veggies"...hmmm, one might conclude they didn't get the 'right-stuff' to eat, huh. j. |
