Winter's Cool Breeze By Larry Chadwick And so it seems difficult to understand. The solstice tells us when the seasons change. So reliable we can mark them in advance on the calendar. And in our own families we watch for the seasons that change and we move from one generation to another. Some fulfill their expected roles to fullest durations possible. And some leave too early for our own comfort and satisfaction. But few of us are prepared when we expand our horizons and we find a “A home without a wall, Our haven without ends, A circle we all call Our Family of Friends!” For there it is that we find seasons we cannot forecast. Instead we are surrounded by friends with whom we chose to ignore generational barriers. Where we tend to ignore class or looks. Where we chose instead to make friends based on character and poetry, friendship and loyalty. No regard for geography or income and a total disregard for age. And thus we seem to have problems with the seasons. We’re good with a lot of spring and summer, even fall. Winter we tend to want to minimize. And yet, somehow we have made ourselves vulnerable to winter. That stage in life where we wrap up our activities and our health becomes submissive to disease or age. And so we interact with those who are deep into winter and searching for meaningful ways to say goodbye. It’s not that we cannot negotiate winter experiences. It is that we experience so many of them. How many times must we say goodbye? How many times must we feel that chilly breeze? And we watch as people make every effort to fight it off. And yet they fail. Fortunately, most of us have realized platitudes are not fit for winter. For in the winter what you want instead is the warm glow of truth, love with generous supplies of hugs and kisses. And so as disproportionate as we believe our winters have become we must still look to the values encased in “A home without a wall, Our haven without ends, A circle we all call Our Family of Friends!” and however much it is stacked with winter weather we don’t cower or deny. We keep coming back with open arms and open hearts offering the only thing that matters. Ourselves. So you know winter has claimed our poets before like: William Yates a.k.a. William Boza Madame Chipmunk a.k.a. Renay "Lyra"Piercey-Nesius Auguste a.k.a. Michael Pruitt WhtDove a.k.a. Rebecca Grant Fagan a.k.a. Robert Charles Rilling Sy the Dauber a.k.a. Seymour Tabin And winter isn’t over. So I urge you to keep track of all the winter weather we are exposed to inside these blue walls. And offer yourself and all the warmth you have to profide. For eventually your winter is coming too. And you too will wish to be warm. January 19, 2009 If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. |

Larry, What you say is truth. This is a special place that we share - and winters sometimes are hard to deal with. I think that is why it is followed by the life that spring brings. Alison |

Thank you all. And now we sadly add our dear Marge to this list. But we are blessed to bask in the glow of the presence she left behind in these blue walls. If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, |
