Assignments From My Daughter #29 By Larry Chadwick L.L. Bean wasn’t really her style. But then again that hat. She had to have that hat. It would work so perfect with her classroom. So she sat down at her computer and proceeded to write a whole sequence of topic titles. Relying on her kindergarten experience she got her scissors out and separated each title into a single paper strip. When they were folded in half they went into her hat. And the hat went to her high school English classroom. It would do her juniors and seniors good to write impromptu papers on random topics. Assignment #29 “Never Say “No!””: Today always will be "–" May 18. That dash that goes with February 19. So in my mind it reads February 19, 1974 – May 18, 2002. At 12:15 p.m. I got the call that told me she was fighting for her life. At 5:15 p.m. I was at the airport struggling to finish my race to her side before she died when my brother called to say her fight was over. I remember screaming, “No!” The rest of that day was an introduction to pain with all new definitions. To her students she was Miss Chadwick. But to me she will always be Ginger Michelle. Today is not an anniversary of her death. Because today I choose to celebrate her life. But I hope that I never say “No!” again. Ever. May 18, 2004 If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. |

Marge, You speak as if by experience. And oh so painfully true. Thank you so very much. ![]() Nancy Lee, How very kind. It was surprising to find that in saving this last assignment for today I anticipated the opportunity. And thank you for your gentle thoughts. ![]() If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. |

Dearest Larry, hating to see this assignment end, I somehow envision 'last'. From "in the beginning" of the first word an emotion already lives, reading onward. It starts with a pinch in my throat that steadily, runs thru my body. Pricking my heart, making my arms want to reach out. It continues moving, upward, downward it escapes out my eyes as a liquid. Warm, salty it journeys down my cheek. Slowly drips and is caught by my chest. Absorbed into my soul Seeing an angel in the sky, my spirit opens wide. On my knees, I hand out a prayer take good care of Ginger Michelle and take away the grief of a man. One of these prayers has already been granted. ********************* A time is coming when, sorrow will end (IS. 60:20) look forward to a new heaven a new earth where mourning turns to gladness and comfort into bliss (Is. 61: 1-3) Death, is it an ending or really life everlasting beginning? *************************** Sending you prayers tucked inside of hugs! Thanks for the memories may they live on as you! Sincerely, pictureme :-) |

pictureme, ============================== One of these prayers has already been granted. ============================== Actually, both have been answered. You are a tender soul indeed. Such a healing quality for a broken heart. Thank you for your faithful kindness. ![]() If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. |

Sadelite, It's okay, thank you. This whole series is my memorial gift to Ginger. Her mother controlled her estate which left me pretty much a side note. But alas I have what means the most so it worked out. It has been an amazing journey to do 29 assignments all from my daughter. I hope to make a transcript of it into book format. But it needs some work. Thanks again for your participation in my writing. If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. |

I hope you do make a book of it...I think it would be cool if you integrate all the assignments into a kind of biography of her, because the non-assignments in which you have written about her also deserve to be in there! Anyway I wish you the best of luck with furthering this project. We are really lucky that you aired it here at Piptalk first. Lizzie. Lizzie, Thank you dear girl. That is how I have organized the desktop version. Maybe this winter I will find time to refine it as a manuscript and get it turned in. Bless you. ![]() If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. |
