The Scent In the beginning there was nothing. A blank wall of emotion formed by two who knew not of the other, and therefore felt nothing for one another. Then came the spark. She walked into a room, crowded, she should have been lost in the shuffle, just another face. But she wasn’t. HER face caught his eye, and the impression imbedded itself there for days. At one point she passed by him close enough to catch a scent of that beautiful woman smell, and it too stayed in his mind. He scoured department stores trying to find that scent, to catch a part of her that he could hold close. She knew he had to have seen her. She passed within inches of him at one point. This nameless stranger who she found herself so attracted to, yet so afraid to speak to. She had caught a faint whiff of his cologne. So masculine, she had to find that scent. She found herself testing bottles at the counter where she worked to see if she could pin down the fragrance, to catch what it was. Maybe if she found the brand, then next time she would be brave enough to speak to him. Maybe. Suddenly, he saw her there. In his hand he held the bottle of perfume. He was sure it was her scent, he’d finally found it. Was this fate, here he was at the store she worked at, and he had finally found the one? After searching for so long? She saw him there. He was holding a bottle of women’s perfume. He had a glazed look in his eye. Must be reflecting over the wonderful woman lucky enough to be receiving such a gift from him. He looked like a man in love. Lucky woman. Good taste in perfume too. Why are the good ones always taken? He knew she saw him. And she turned and walked far away from him. She never even looked back. He caught a glimpse of the contempt in her eyes before she turned. Hmmm…probably married anyway. And he set the bottle down and walked away. In the end there was nothing. Two people who shared an emotion, but never shared a word between the two of them. Judgement before words. And in the end…well…there was simply…The End. ------------------ For sometimes when the Darkness falls, we must surrender, take what is ours, and give what we can, and always remember love is somewhere waiting... |

Glad to know that you glide in from time to time, Az. A good description of a random moment in time. ![]() ------------------ Shall I indulge in flights of fancy hampered by clipped wings? DreamEvil© |

Very sobering and thought provoking! I wonder how many times this has happened, the possibility of true love or true understanding being passed by due to assumption or judgement? Very well written, and thank you for sharing! |

I like it AZ. Maybe we should all learn to speak our feelings aloud. |

Why does it always seem that we let these moments pass and then it is too late. To be able to speak our minds, say what we feel....sometimes it would be such a wonderful thing. |
