She wound up marrying him, you know. The one she promised me she would never love. She lied and she loved him more than she could've ever loved me, but honestly, what did I expect? I never would've known had I not had that newspaper shoved beneath my nose and seen that picture. Her radience and his pathetic face, smiling up at me, as if they somehow knew that I would see it. Immediatly, I grasped for the phone, dialing those seven numbers I could never forget and I waited. Ring after ring was an eternity, but I hat to know. Perhaps it wasn't true. I mean, how could my old best friend be engaged to my ex-girlfriend? "Hello?" "So, where's my invitation?" "Who is this?" "What, don't recognize your ex-lovers voice? Has it really been that long?" "Oh. What do you want?" "Funny thing, actually. My secretary shoved the morning paper in my face. She thought I might benefit from reading the engagements and announcements section. Imagine my surprise when I look down only to see that my ex-girlfriend is going to be married to my ex-best friend. Congratulations, Emmie, you've been romantically involved with both members of the dynamic duo. " There was a pause, then the dial tone buzzing in my ear. Apparently, I offended my dear Emmie. Oh well. "Marsha," I called and my secretary scampered into my room. "Yes, Mr. Tyler?" "Get me the number for Alexander Jackson, please." "Yes Mr. Tyler." Moments later, Marsha handed me a slip of paper with a number scrawled on it. "Thanks," I smirked, punching in the digits and waiting, once again. "Hello?" "Alex?" "Yes, who is this?" "Does no one remember me anymore?" "Josh?" "But of course." "What do you want?" "Well, actually, I just spoke with Emmie-" "Don't call her Emmie, Josh, you know she hates that." "Fine. I just spoke with Emma a few minutes ago. She seems rather hostile towards me." "What did you say to her?" "That's not the point, Alex. So, how did this happen?" "Why do you care?" "I'm curious. Can't blame me for that can you? I mean, it's not everyday that your ex-girlfriend and ex-best friend plan to get married." "Since when is it any of your business?" "Since you advertised it in the newspaper." "You do have a point," He said a few minutes later, "Yes, Emma and I are getting married. I still don't understand what this has to do with you." "Just- answer my questions, ok?" "Fine. What do you want to know?" "Am I invited?" "No. Geez, Josh, why would you be? She hates you. You can't tell me you didn't know that." "Yeah, but still. I was your best friend." "Yes, you were. In the past. That was a long time ago." "It was only five years." "What else must you know?" I could tell he was becoming impatient with me. "How is she, Alex?" "Like you care." "No, really, I do." "She's wonderful. She's radient, and beautiful, and wonderful." "Good, that's good." "Yeah, not like you helped that much." "What do you mean?" "Don't start that. You know what you did. Not allowing her the freedom of speaking with me. Yelling at ther everytime she so much as mentioned my name. God, Josh, she was my best friend too. How could you try to take me away from her? You know she needed me." "You were always trying to steal her from me. Alex, you were just waiting for your opportunity to get your foot in the door. You always thought she was hot, you claimed to love her, but I knew your motives." "My motives? What- to love her and care for her?" "To take her away from me! You always had to take whatever I had." "What's the point, Josh? You lost her. I didn't steal her from you, you drove her away. She made her decision, she gave me a chance and we fell in love." "She'll never love you." Crossing my arms like an angry child, I hung up the phone. She promised. She swore she would never love him. I mean, I guess I pushed her to him. I drove her away. Hell, how was I supposed to know? She was sixteen and my girlfriend, he was twenty and my best friend. Betrayal. She wound up marrying him, you know. In the night, on the beach, like she used to dream about. She was supposed to marry me though. I guess things don't always go the way they're supposed to. |

Interesting. Josh doesn't strike me as a plotting, calculated indvidual. As for Alex I would think that the man to win Emma's heart would be alittle more sharp tougued and whitty, but that is just my impression. With that aside it is a very interesting piece. Who can't relate to being betrayed? It is something that everyone has to deal with and come to grips with in life. My bestfriend of 11 years never hangs out with me anymore, because being drunk and accepted in to a frat is far more important. To quote great words: "O, what a tangled web we weave." Over all nice. ~Stoic |

Don't forget, my dear, that I told you that I didn't think that I had the characters quite right from the beginning, that you know who they are based on and you knew in the beginning that I said that I didn't have them right, I don't quite understand why you're analyzing my characters. Yes, Josh does seem a tad too plotting and calculated.. and sure, Alex, since you are reletively familiar with him, should be a little more sharp tongued and witty, but honestly, you're too familiar with the people these characters are based on to accurately judge them. Had someone else written this piece instead of me, you would have read it (or not) without the knowledge of who they are based on and had nothing to complain about. Or maybe you would have. How am i supposed to know? Don't take this as me snapping at you, as I fear you will. I am having a manic day again and have to step onto an airplane in about an hour.. and it's freaking me out. I just don't get your analysis on my characters. And remember.. I know where you sleep. well, maybe. goodbye and goodnight. love muches, alyssa. |

Love, sometimes it can be so destructive if used wrongly. But if it is true, it manages to bring together two hearts. I feel sorry for the jilted lover of this story, for I'm experiencing a similar problem and dilemma to his. |

Allysa, you did a very nice job with the conversations of the two main characters within. I did notice a couple or three spelling errors, but nothing major. You picked a good topic, one that you could possibly build on in another chapter to this... If you feel the urge, I think I would modify the ending of this slightly so that it would leave an opening for additional material. |
