The moon casts it’s glow upon the sand as the gentle sounds of the waves rolling on to the beach lulls me. The fire dying within the pit dug from the white that surrounds us. Most of the guests from the beach bash have gone home, a few straggles are curled in random long the beach. The night is warm on the skin, the night sounds soothing to the ear. You lay sleeping on a blanket, hair cascading around your head and shoulders; exhaustion evident even as you sleep. Laying here beside you, seeing you breathe; hearing your sorrow, hearing your need. I brush a few grains of sand from your cheek feeling the softness of your skin. Knowing that it is to soon to let you know my true feeling for you, yet, unable to guard my heart in the pale moon light. My friend, your brother, had been gone only 2 months and the pain was still like a knife through both our hearts. Wanting to comfort you in loving arms but knowing that you would be afraid of the closeness that comes from tragedy. Not knowing that my feeling for you had been growing for years before the fall that took the life of the one who was like a brother to me. You stir and my thoughts are brought from my wandering and I smile as you look up into my eyes. You hand brushes my cheek and you eyes speak volumes to me. Had I spoken aloud? How could you read my inner most thoughts? The look in your eyes told me all I needed to know as I leaned down and gently brushed your lips with mine. the wonderment of love and the hope of a future burned sharply in my chest as I deepened the kiss. Home never felt so good. |
