I came upon this word reading Act III Scene I of "Tamburlaine The Great" as Bajazeth says:

"As many curcumsised Turks we have<
And warlike bands of Christians renied
as hath the ocean or the Terrene sea
small drops of water when the moon begins
to join in one her semicircled horns"

I was just wondering if any of you know what it means. It's not in any dictionary that I have or that I have checked on-line.
If you can help that would be excellent.
Thanks.

Hmmm...well, I just looked online and in both
of my 'real' dictionaries and I can't find it
either.  This sounds like a job for PdV's
dictionary collection.

Well, I still haven't found an actual 'definition'
of the word, but if you go to http://www.google.com
and type in 'renied', you'll find the word used
in many different sentences on various sites.
From the examples that I've seen, my guess
would be that it means pretty much the same
thing as 'denied'.  You can check out google
and see if you agree, and I'm sure someone
will probably show up with a real answer
before too long as well.  Hope that helps.

Hey Ess - here's the meaning as quoted from a full-text site with notes:

"Christians renied, i.e. Christians who have denied, or renounced their faith...among many passages that might be cited, compare the following;

"And that Ydole is the God of false Cristene, that han
    RENEYED hire FEYTHE."
THE VOIAGE AND TRAVAILE OF SIR JOHN MAUNDEVILE,"

"For that thou should'st RENY THY FAITH, and her thereby
      possesse.
The Soldan did capitulat in vaine: the more thy blesse."

Here is the site if you would like to find more notes on the work:

Essorant, what Vicky found was what I had found myself, last night.  I was unable to stay on long enough to bring it here, so am very glad Vicky did.
