Why doesn't mine work..? Do I have to make my email address publicly available before it will..? I did have my mail blocked before, but I have since unblocked the address "ronald@netpoets.net" because a friend told me that was where the notifications get sent from. Could mine have been turned off before because a previous notification was unable to be sent..? Help! Nocht |

Nocht - Your email icon is not showing on your postings, so I'd say that's why you aren't getting notifications. Just go into your "profile" and change your preferences on the email section. That should fix things for you... [This message has been edited by Nan (edited 10-04-1999).] |

I hate mysteries! This one had me stumped, and took a few minutes to finally solve. I knew it shouldn't be necessary to display your email address in order to receive notifications. So, I turned my email display off, opened a new topic, marked it for notification, then replied. And, uh, wasn't notified. Darn! So I spent about fifteen minutes seeing if I could change the program code - and could discover no where in the code where it looked to see if your email addy was displayable. Double Darn! Blame it on too little coffee (my "day" is just starting), but I eventually discovered the source(s) of all the problems. First, the system is smart enough not to notify you when you are responding to your own message. Fancy that? That's why my first test failed, not because I had my email display turned off. When I replied with a different username, the notification did work, even with my email display turned off. So, I opened up the full Header on my notification and guess what I discovered? The "Reply To" is set to ronald@netpoets.net - but the "From" is set to webmaster@netpoets.com So, the bottom line, Nocht (and all you other AOLers) is to authorize webmaster@netpoets.com to send you mail. Then the notifications should work for you! |
