Simply put, which do you prefer for reading poetry, left-aligned or centered and why?

Should an artistic presentation be considered when posting?

Sitting here on the fence, I like both ways.. free verse seems easier to read when it's left justified though...

I will probably get a lot of grief for this, but I don't think that centering does anything for a poem except make it more difficult to read. If it's a greeting card, fine; otherwise just leave the darn thing left-justified so I don't have to hunt for the shorter lines ...

The obvious exception to this is visual poetry, or any other poetry that uses a unique spacing style to add to the content of the poem or emphasize some theme. For example, if I write a poem with a repeated couplet, I might choose to indent the couplet in order to enhance its effect in the flow of the poem ...

Hope this made sense ... LOL ... and no offense Dream, I know you like to center your stuff ... just my humble (oh, who am I kidding?) opinion ...

None taken. The only pieces that I truly think worth centering are my ballads in 9-7-9-7 quatrains.

I think that people are more inclined to left-aligned poetry because we are taught to read left to right.

I personally enjoy adding a little flair to poetry - it's a fine art, and it sings even more beautifully with visual enhancements...

left aligned is fine with me, although I do center sometimes...but it depends, I try it and if it makes it harder to read, I won't post like that....but I do know what you mean, sometimes the form of a poem can distract or enhance, but I don't feel that simply centering is a distraction
