I looking for a poem I read a few years ago i have no name or poets name.  The poem was about death depicted by a ship sailing from one harbour to the other side of the sea to another harbour everybody was sad on one side when she left but were happy when see arrived at the other side.  i would like to use this poem at my dads funeral and i am asking for help from anyone who has any idea about the poem or the poets name.

Thanks Neil.

Can you recall any individual lines, Neil?  That would help track it down...

Neil~
Firstly ... let me offer my condolences in your loss of your father~

Next ... may I suggest taking a look at The Rime of the Ancient Mariner,
by Samuel Taylor Coleridge at this link
and see if perhaps it fits your needs ?

Peace be with you and your family~

I think you are looking for "Crossing the Bar" by Tennyson.

No sorry, that's wrong although still a good one for the occasion. I know the one you want but cannot remember a title.

Ok, I found it....

What is Dying?

I am standing on the sea shore.
A ship at my side spreads her white
sails to the morning breeze and starts
for the blue ocean She is an object
of beauty and I stand
and watch her until at last she
fades on the horizon.

Then someone at my side says
"There she has gone" -
gone where?
Gone from my sight - that is all.
She is just as large in the mast,
hull and spars as she was
when she left my side. The
diminished size and total loss
of sight is in me and not in her,
and just at that moment when
someone by my side says
"She's gone" others on a distant
shore take up
the glad shout -
"There she comes!"

I'm pretty sure this is the one that Neil is looking for.

Fantastic !!!!!
Dear Friends This is the very poem I was looking for and yes you found it in time we will read it at the funeral tomorrow.  I cant believe that someone was bothered enough to find this for me total strangers helping some one in a time of need its brilliant.  We live in a small fishing village on the north east coats of england in Seahouses in Northumberland.  My dad was a great man loved life to the full always had a laugh and a joke with everyone, he was a great Dad, husband and Granda.
Thanks agian for your wonderful help.
Neil.
