why does he write his name without capital letters? is that legal? i mean, if he had to write his name on an official document would he write it like that?

I don't see why he couldn't sign with no caps. A signature is just that, a signature, or more to the point, it's our personalized mark (have you ever heard the saying, "Leave your mark (on this document)"?) which tells others 'this is me leaving my mark'.

As a Notary Public I have been witness to signatures that were illegible, single straight lines, and sloppy curlycues. It doesn't matter as long as those are their marks.

the question more properly is "why did he write it that way"
he's been dead for some time
in any case, j0n4th4n, read his poetry
i think you'll get it

(on the other hand, maybe it was tongue-in-cheek for the abbreviation, "e.e.", as in "errors expected".)

oh, i didnt realise he was dead.

what i meant was not a signature but say, having to print your name on some document
(like when joining a library for instance)

my question though, was more like this:
was that really his name? was it registered like that?

His name was Edward Estlin Cummings.

He was quite taken by jazz,
and so tried to show the rhythm and spirit of it
on the page.

One of the great modernist poets,
for showing us that style and content
can be one in the same,
in the right hands.

Stella was a diver and she was always down.
