A poem, as a faerie thing, Bereft of form, bereft of wing, Can yet with gentle music bring Delights to make the darkness sing. Elevating common prose, For pleasures sake, each poet knows, Gains by use of tools, as those He would, at length, I'm sure, disclose If payment were perhaps your ear Just for a moment, lent to hear Keenly offered verse - or beer (Loved by poets too, I fear). Most often those who are unwise Negate the poet's enterprise Out of a need to criticize (Perhaps within, their misery lies) Quite out of need to find a fault Regardless of which somersault Some poets use to try and halt Those satisfied with such assault. Unless you've written words as these - Verses made and meant to please With just a little work to tease Xenia coaxed from a's and z's - Your day lacks all that razzmatazz - as Zest for verse - and all that jazz _____________ Xenia -- Webster's New International Dictionary (1932 edition) page 2357 xenium (plural xenia) a present given to a guest (or stranger) Kevin |

Kevin, Clever, humorous, and it flows so naturally--especially given the restrictions you put yourself under. I like the way that the sentences spill over from line to line. I know that that isn't easy to do. Your poem works well. Are you the same Kevin Taylor who posted poems at RedFrog? I noticed your name, since it's so similar to my own. I was sad to see RedFrog disappear. [This message has been edited by Kenneth Ray Taylor (edited 12-23-1999).] |

This is AWESOME. I have to say I'm very proud. Passions, I think, has the most creative poets. --A Little Fairy-- |

Thank you for your kind words. To answer your question Kenneth, I have often posted poems at RedFrog... but it's been a while and I'm shocked to hear it is gone! What a waste. Kevin |

I loved RedFrog. I posted nearly one hundred poems out there under my (then) pen name Zaxil. My new handle is the name (albeit common) that my parents gave me. |

Kevin, what a delightful piece of humor and witticism this is, with its tong-in-cheek ironic advice to all of us would-be poets! I love it. I also find the format quite appropriate for the message. Congrats! Willem |

Here I am determined to be critical of everything as a sort of counterweight to all the nice stuff people have been saying recently and this one comes along and makes me laugh out loud. Great job! Speaking of beer, I gotta go . . . Brad |

Kevin, I just have to add my name to the long list of those who are amazed and delighted with this poem. I have seen one or two of these things in the past and they always seemed extremely forced. Yours, however, flowed and made perfect sense throughout. Anyway, after you defined xenia for those few of us who didn't know it. On seeing the title, I really expected something sappy. Imagine my surprise when I read and thoroughly enjoyed it. Excellent work. Pete |
