when she can only wonder, as nothing ever was comfirmed, life seems to crawl, it's belly scraping the ground, the question so prodigious, it inhibits standing, lungs to fill with fresh, clean air. instead, she creeps along, the lenghth of her body scraped raw, she fingernails her way through the maze full of grime and dust, breathing in granular particulates, hacking, spitting out the soot. all she asks for is to be enlightened, to know, for it would allow her to rise, let sunlight touch her face, dry tear-streaked trails, running down through the grime. it is the solution she seeks, for then the other puzzles will be easily solved. what was once uncomplicated, bare, sheer, became so very convoluted, labyrinthine. if she is to stand, the complexity must be stripped away, be made once again simple, obvious, answerable, then ackknowledged with response offered. resolution to the wondering, and all it carries, one way or the other, wiill see this grueling journey of a single query consummated, with an entering to the exit of the maze. Gee... sounds almost like a bad marriage. Good imagery here, "she fingernails her way" (I like that). Yesterday is ash, tomorrow is smoke; only today does the fire burn. JP Most people would rather die than think; in fact, they do so. B. Russell |

What has been going on since I've been gone? Sheez!...this is CA, not Open, and you, JP, are a staff member! This is a poem comparable to having to pull teeth to get a tough answer, and the further along she gets, the tougher it gets. Her own questionings and self-doubts complicate things even more, till it feels like she's trying to make her way through a maze, and will only find the exit when she has the answer. I was just kidding above...I'm the last one who would care how long critiques are, though I know there are some who do. Thanks for perusing, and for writing a couple of sentences.
