I am a man of many parts- Composite so they say- I have no doubt within my heart That you are the same way. Why are we shaped the way we are? I speak not of the frame- Nor accident of blood, or birth For which no one's to blame. I speak of how we act and think The working of our mind... And our regard for issues... These are the ties that bind. Who shaped your choice of clothing? The way you sit and walk- And e'en your reading matter? And the things of which you talk. For someone touched your mind and will And bent it to their own- We are the shades of other men Not formed by will alone. I'd like to shape my children To finish what they start; And show respect to others- And have no hardened heart- To leave a hint of brightness- No matter where they roam- And they'll live on in others E'en when they're gone. |
