Metaphor for Our Love Affair

A compass looking for its star
the last tank of gas in a stolen car
a wild roller coaster ride
and the terror we both share
metaphor for our love affair

A faded sign pointing north or south
rolled eyes and twisted mouths
some days a flamethrower
some days a Fridgidaire
metaphor for our love affair

Is there a meaning we both can find
a canary for each soul's mine
should love be easy
must it be so hard
mornings warm and breezy
nights cold as a graveyard
and for every heartbeat mile between love and nowhere
a metaphor for our love affair

Business in the front, party in the back
is it lust or a plan of attack
if you'll be my Ginger Rogers
I'll be your Fred Astaire
metaphor for our love affair

You're as cautious as a speed limit sign
you say I'm reckless and unrefined
should love be kind
must it be so cruel
desires of a brilliant mind
destined to always play the fool
and for every time I get tangled up in your hair
a metaphor for our love affair

A compass showing true north
a full tank to take me to your door
a ride through the tunnel of love
and the moments we both share

Should our love be easy
could our love be so rare
for every morning warm and breezy
