Time filed away this tragedy, Miss Toots, one slip of the tongue and I’d know I was done It was a cold fact, wrapped up tight in many a bold move... But then, you didn’t come over here to listen, did you, Miss Toots? Well, if you’re going to stay, pour us a double and keep your hemline to yourself It means nothing to me at the moment and your mouth looks better closed You could bore me to tears with any given syllable, so lift your hair and expose an ear... Rushes of metal once flowed in these veins, Miss Toots, distilling me in barrels of pleasure and pain Multiplying my actions over and over again never equaled more than less than nothing So, what then, is the point in having you launder my stain? Hearts on strings were constantly dangling in the frightened ones dying agony Without a second thought, Miss Toots, I couldn’t see how they slowly crept over me Spending my time like a book of bad checks, they began overcoming my senses All those thrilling novels stashed under the staircase, piled up high in psycho-knit layers My baby and I ran out of time, as the doors slammed behind all the naked soothsayers Never bet on a loser, Miss Toots, unless you want to win Now, as those long nights passed, delusions left my eyes and spilled onto my pillow Listening to a radio squelching annoyingly to a misguided frequency The knob kept turning and my mind kept burning… I couldn’t miss her more than I do, and you know what that means, don’t you, Miss Toots?
