Fair to middlin' of nowhere

I remember you.
I know who you were
before that phone call
that changed everything,
the diagnosis that scared
the life out of you.
I know you miss that you,
and it is someone you want
to get back to.
But that man is gone.
A better one
stands in his place.
Weak and bewildered perhaps,
yet a wiser gentler soul.
The good man you are
is no worse for wear,
challenged as he has been.
I know worry has worn a trench
where just a path used to be.
Now there are things you can’t
take for granted anymore.
I realize the physical weakness
fools you into thinking
you are less of a man,
because that is the lens
you have always used
to view yourself.
Inside you are tougher
and more resilient
than you think.
You are still strong enough
to give me strength.
You still comfort and protect me.
You are still my everything,
holding my heart
in your hands.

Warmly emotional, Miss Lori. You understand your man.

The title quickly reminded me of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlIK_W69H9c

...peace to you and your family.

Bluesy,
Slim Whitman! Wow, I had forgotten all about him! Haha I've probably done my best impression a time or two too. I may have taken this a little more light hearted than intended, but I must say it hit the spot.
Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness.
~L

You humble me with your tears. I look forward to your pink lines under my poems, you say the sweetest things, "huggers" ~L
