Fair to middlin' of nowhere

Waiting room
in the ER
to
waiting in a room
in the ER.

Watching as they
hook up five IV’s
and take armfuls
of blood
and give you oxygen.

Waiting for your
blood pressure to raise,
test results,
chest X-rays.
Pneumonia, Septic shock.

Watching for hours
the professionals
come and go
answering their calling
with kindness and a smile.

Waiting for your low
blood pressure to rise,
you’ll be in ICU tonight.

Watching you do better
all through the night
they send you home
about noon.
Were back again
later that night.

Waiting room
in the ER
to
waiting in a room
in the ER.

Watching as they
hook up  an IV
and take armfuls
of blood.

Waiting again on
test results,
chest X-rays
Bad abdominal pain.

Watching the Dr. says
You’re okay,
the pain is from
the medication,
go home.

Waiting at home
to feel better.
The hospital calls
and wants him back.
He has a new infection.

Waiting room
in the ER
to
waiting in a room
in the ER.

Watching as they
hook up an IV
and take armfuls
of blood
and a CT scan
of your abdomen.
Diverticulitis, E.coli
and spots on your liver.

Waiting for a room,
the professionals
come and go
answering their calling
with kindness and a smile.
Four hour later
a room opens up.

Watching you so miserable,
sick and in pain,
reminds us both
of your battle with cancer
We’re seeing just how weak
your immune system
is now.

Waiting and watching now
to see how you do.
You got sick on Friday,
admitted on Saturday,
went home Monday,
came back Monday night,
went home,
got called back Tuesday
and hopefully
be home Thursday.

Waiting and watching
is exhausting.
It was a Godsend
napping in your room.
It is hard sleeping here
again.
I hope you come home soon.

Hmm...yes, and as if that wasn't enough, just wait awhile and watch as the plethora of paperwork starts coming in.

Yes Bluesy, there should be a blizzard of paperwork soon, enough to keep the wood burner in good shape for starter fuel.  ~L

No, Blues it is not good. The Dr. just said for him to expect to stay a few days and that he would be a better judge if the medicine is working than they would be. Well, Dennis says it isn't working because he isn't feeling any better. At least he is no worse. I appreciate the prayers. Pray that the Dr.'s don't get stupid. ~L

Pinkperception,
Yes, this is especially demoralizing to Dennis. It was exactly a year ago he started chemo and radiation. And before that he had a lymph node removed, what was left of his teeth pulled, a feeding tube put in his stomach and a port in the artery in his neck. So he has been a hurting unit for over a year. He still struggles to eat enough solid foods and drinks supplements. His sense of taste is beginning to return but his saliva glands are not producing much and it makes it hard to swallow. He is not a happy camper. Can't say as I blame him. ~L
