Fair to middlin' of nowhere

When did it happen?
I’m really not sure,
maybe somewhere
around fifty-eight
I got old.
Not old, old.
Not elderly.
Slow,
some gray showing
and dumpy.
And if God
Blesses me with life
through the end of December,
and I make sixty. . .
Well, to tell you the truth
I hadn’t thought much further
than the newest grandbaby
coming in May. . .
Oh, and my daughter’s boyfriend
put a down payment  on a ring,
So I really should try to make that wedding,
“three to five” years from now. . . .
Then there’s retirement,
I don’t want to miss out on that.
(the way I got it figured, I can afford
to retire ten years after I die)
Point being,
sixty makes it official. . .
I am of an age
no longer middle.
Curses on whoever says
sixty is the new forty.
I am as old as I feel
and the zippity
has left my do-da
in the dirt.
And every day feels
like gravy.
Actually everyday
is gravy if you think about it.
And right now,
I’m thinking about it.
I’m thinking about things
I need to change
if I want to grow older.

Isn't "thinking and changing" what we all spent too much time doing already? Doing things impulsively and spontaneously...now maybe those two drivers deserve a turn, Miss Lori.

Bluesy,
"impulsively and spontaneously" otherwise known as me getting a wild hair. Yes, it is lovely and rarely disastrous. ~L
