as far as the eye could see
Desperado could see further
          he lay a-dying
          of thirst
beside a sparkling lake
man-made and poisoned by same
          not drinkable
          unthinkable
Desperado, naked and gaunt
wore his Colt six-shooter
          on bony hips
          strength for one more draw
he fondled his weapon of choice
felt it rising to the occasion
he grinned a blistered, cracked lip grin
          closed his eyes, remembering
hand moved from weapon of choice
and wrapped fingers around the Colt
to free it from its holster
          where would Desperado aim it

I've read this fine piece of yours before Jerry, and the metaphors tucked neatly inside it gave me a familiar grin...

It may be the "Desperado" in me. Great reading!

Ahhh . . . Many thanks, Bluesy. Yep, love a good metaphor myself. I so loved your comments.
