I feel him slipping through my fingers a little more each day. Less and less my words hold sway. I live with the dread of waking up and he is dead. His mind defeated, his body depleted, wanting so badly to be well. Treatment was hell. Recovery painfully slow Fighting what he doesn’t know how to overcome with his tools. Nothing follows his rules or expectations, creating frustrations and foul moods as he tries different foods to get down his throat. Stubborn as a goat with no appetite, it is always a fight just to eat like a bird. How many times I’ve heard “This tastes funny.” “ I know, Honey.” “I can’t swallow it, no saliva won’t allow it” And I just want to say, “Eat it anyway!! I’m losing you and there’s nothing I can do!” There is no giving helpful advice. It’s all I can do to be nice. I’m scared and at a loss. I wish I was boss. |

YOU are boss my special friend. I realize how difficult it must be, but YOU are boss. Do what it takes to make him eat. You are not meek and mild, show yourself and help your man live again. ~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~ |

All our situations and relationships are different. Rarely, will any 'one size solution' fit all. Still, it's hard sometimes to want more for someone than they want for themselves. Sometimes it's easy, but there's a brutal tax on the effort. ...just bein' Bluesy |

Oh Jerry, I can only be the boss of me. This week end I wasn't feeling well and I wasn't cooking (I finally made some oatmeal on Sunday evening)Needless to say he didn't get his calories in and come Monday he is questioning if he is up to work or not. He will go anyway and suffer the consequences. ~L |

Thanks nakdthoughts, I appreciate it. The frustration is overwhelming-we beat the cancer but the recovery is horrible. ~L |

Bluesy, He wants it bad enough, all most too much and gets unrealistic expectations and frustrations and mind games with himself-like too much food on the plate can overwhelm him and he talks himself into being full. It is craziness. ~L |

So sorry to hear this Lori ~ Have you thought about or tried Ensure or Boost? I know when my Mom got to where she couldn't eat I would open a can of that and put some vanilla ice cream in it and make a shake for her. Just an idea Alana |
