I’ve been up since way too early thirty this morning watching the lightening streak the pre-dawn sky and listening to the faintest of rumbles roll on by. Winston is on alert and on my heels everywhere I go. I would venture outside to wait for the storm to perchance this way, but it is still hot and muggy with nary a breath of air. The storm seems to be avoiding us, as the rumbling grows still. The dog sighs and passes gas that makes me shake my head. And all is quiet except for the gentle tapping of fingers on the keyboard. When out of nowhere comes the sound of raindrops. Setting the laptop aside, I hurry to the dark porch to enjoy the show. Short-lived though it is, I feel the sweet cool breeze and the mist on my face. I hear the gurgle of water rushing down downspouts and splashing over the rocks in the rock garden. My reverie is broken by the sound of someone from inside the house calling out “Hello?” Apparently dear Winston, who refused to join me on the porch, found himself compelled to scratch upon the bedroom door to wake Dad up at still too early thirty to open the door so that he might go hide under the bed. The rain was subsiding and I was on my way back in when Winston, Dad and the door was going down. With a little mumbled shuffling, the door was closed again and Winston’s laying at my feet. Above the sound of fingers gently tapping on a keyboard is the growing patter of raindrops. |

such a lovely write....used to love to go out on the porch with a cup of coffee early in the morning before dawn. It's so peaceful and quite...nothing is yet awake, so the sounds of early morning are tranquil, yet alive. Thank you for taking me to that part of the day. |

The rains down here have been very sporadic too, often lighting and thunder waging war, but in somebody else's section of the world - not ours and leading to fist shaking from me just daring it to come around here - to no avail, of course. By the way, loving the way you end your pieces so smooth and definitive. j. |

You are becoming well known with your personal poetry, Lori. You write about what is happening in your life in such a way that your readers -- include me, of course -- can well associate with your words. This one had me smelling that rain. ~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~ |

Hey Jimmy! I lucked out on this ending. The poem pretty well wrote itself and as it happened. We have been fortunate in getting in a few morning showers here and there. |

I like this very much. It is sweet in its simplicity and reminds me of an era when people (including myself) were more connected to nature. Thank you for sharing! |

Lori, You're very welcome. I think "Blue Buffet" is a very fitting description, given all the blue colors on the PIP website. Thanks for welcoming me! [This message has been edited by Cerulean (07-26-2017 10:12 PM).] |
