Dancing From Flower To Flower

One day
when you and I were young
and I saw you,
for the first time,
my heart beat so fast
I felt as if I were
a hummingbird
dancing from flower
to flower,
and my head spun
with the fragrance,
the pheromones,
announcing your presence.

To see you
was to know you.
To know you
was to

Love. . .

And Love you I did,
all those many years,
through all our kids,
our later years,
and all the days I've spent
standing at your feet,
tracing, with my eyes,
the letters of your name
on the stone at your head,
where you rest
with all of the other
beautiful things of God

And Love you I do.
Today, Tomorrow,
and in all the days left to me
before I too,
become as one,
with you.

Your pheromones still linger
in my soul,
my heart still beats
like a hummingbird
dancing from flower to flower
at every thought,
and I still see you,
and know you,
and I've never failed
to Love . . .

just as I did
when you and I were young.
