Up and out before the heat sets in. I walk the old black top where the tar filled cracks look like a Salvador Dali EKG. The tangerine sun barely tops the trees, sending my shadow a quarter cross the acre. Roadside trees throw shade clear to the opposite side of the field, to the river. Old Winston trots along beside me. Letting his nose be his guide, he misses the downwind fox and frozen rabbit. But manages to find every calling card a critter has left by the side of the road. The birds all gossip as we go by. There is always a cool breeze but not always enough to keep the gnats away. They battle for position under the brim of my baseball cap. Sometimes Roper, the village dog, follows along with us thrashing and crashing through overgrown ditches. We turn around at the cemetery and head back downhill for home. My mouth is dry and my legs are getting tired so I pick up the pace to our property line. A cold bottle of water awaits in the garage refrigerator. My reward for a job well done. |

Heh.Heh Gotta love it, Lori. Walking the old blacktop roads you are sure to meet up with things which "look like a Salvador Dali EKG" more often than not. Great, informative poetry, my friend. ~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~ |

Hey Jerry! As I walk I can't help but want to take y'all with me so you can share the view. As I focus on finding words while I walk, I forget about my legs. I guess this one does (being informative)read a little like a road map compared to some of my other works, lol. ~L |

Your "tromps" as I call mine, as though I start by walking on air, my feet and legs feel like I'm wearing 10lb ankle weights by the time I get back home - and sometimes I've only made a circuit or two of the yard!! Anyway, your tromps are very well written mini-ramblings, yet, generally, maintains a specific cohesive thought that causes one to fall down through the piece, line by line until they go . . . "ahhhh" at the end. Well done, my friend, j. |

Walking at six is no big deal Pinkalou when you automatically wake up at five. If I wait any later it gets too hot and I can't walk. I'm glad you enjoyed our little jaunt. ~L |

A picture is worth a thousand words and vice versa. You have truly out done yourself Lori. Your words are the real deal. You took me there. |

Thanks you Blues! Nice to know you came along for the walk. I like to think a person doesn't have to think too hard to understand my poetry. However, I will concede a Salvador Dali EKG may have been a bit of a stretch for some.~L |
