It is quiet.
All is still except for
the white noise
emanating from the refrigerator,
the gentle snore of the dog
and the occasional creak and gasp
from the coffee maker.
As gray slowly lightens the sky,
birds start to twitter awake.
A vehicle rumbles by.
I settle back in my chair
with my favorite mug
of coffee with milk and sweetener,
and take stock of my situation.
First and foremost,
I am completely awake.
That is not always a given.
Some mornings,
I fix my coffee,
sit down and fall asleep.
Those tend not to be
very good days .
The sleepy hangs on forever,
strangling my motivation.
But today I’m ready and willing
to get dressed and take the dog
and go for a walk.
I don’t walk that far (yet)
but it makes me feel better
all the rest of the day.
So I am grateful
for this cloudy morning
that I have awoken to
with my head on straight.
I have anticipation
instead of dread.
I’m calm and not
knotted with anxiety.
No matter what
the rest of the day may bring,
I have my morning.

Very nice to hear this oh so positive write this morning, and especially happy that you and your dog walk these days. Yes! It makes you feel good.

So far so good this morning! Gonna be a hot one here today...Maybe while I'm stuck in the house I'll actually get something done.

Hey thanks girlie! The rest of the day has turned out to be a bit nappy and unproductive, but rumor has it, me and the old man are going to the grocery store this evening after it cools down a little. ~L

Hey Blues!
Well,you know what I have found is that the more you write, the easier it gets. And once in a great while a poem will kinda write itself and just fall out of your head in one clean sweep. Also, if you'll notice, I'm not big on hard stuff like sonnets and the like. I keep it pretty simple (easy). Thank you for being so supportive of my work! ~L
