The moon drew faces on the pond in rippled insignificance, Breeze tattered rhododendrons glowed upon the water’s liquid glance And lamplights in the village square were woven shadow gathered maids That changed as quickly as the night, afraid in case it’s magic fades, Beneath the oak tree by the pond, she sat and watched the faces change While cloud cast eyes scrolled slowly by, so languid and so parchment strange Above she scanned expressionless, the evening’s weary skies roll on Over the oaken whispered hours until their final verse was done. Arising, she strolled softly off, as silence wrapped her in it’s cloak Past houses glowing in the dark, past silhouettes through mist like smoke And through her silence, through the night, a strangely drawn caricature Of someone that she once had known, although she wasn’t really sure For shadow mists can tall such lies, like harlequins in masquerades They seem so much like something else, until the evening finally fades Into black silk indifference, in mourning for the coming dawn And narrow strands of silver pearls told her the morning’s light was born. Then quietly she walked back to her cottage down the lane She stepped inside and closed the door, then by the fire again She sat a while and warmed herself, as fire glow shadows on the wall Danced through her eyes and deep inside, she heard the sandman’s call, Her eyelids drooped into a dream, and all at once she knew Two sweethearts walking summer fields, a dance through green and blue, And on her sleeping face a smile of wondrous recognition grew For in her dream she realised that every single piece was true… |

Lyrical storytelling, soft and dreamy. Though long lines...you make it work. CG |
