They Know Not

Fair to middlin' of nowhere

Forgive them their fear and ignorance,
they know not what they do.
To be kind,
they have been misled.
To be blatant and bold,
they have been straight up
bamboozled, flimflammed
and lied to.
All they wanted was
a better America.
They just wanted someone
to hear them,
and at long last
support their extremist convictions.
But what they got was a lying weasel.
And spread it on thick, he did.
Dipped it in the rhetoric of
of their heart’s desire.
He fanned your hates
into a giant orange fire,
and watched
as your money rolled in.
His Loyalists were
raking it in too.
All they had to do
was keep their mouths shut
except to agree,
as he dismantled
a Democracy.
It’s sad really.
well-meaning people at heart,
brainwashed into
tearing their country apart.
Ready to revolt
under false pretenses
of a false prophet.
Time to throw water
on the Witch, Dorothy.
Break the spell.
