Lub Dub There was a time, once, long ago, I used to fear slippage of mind. Starting so slow, like a soft chime Of wind too soon fallen behind. The frailties of memory— A sudden pause at straying thought, Lost Destiny, I sail her seas In chase of something I forgot. And yet the storm in time mellows, It cradles you on the dark sea. Image yellow, pages are torn. Soon nothing’s left of you and me. Strove so hard—so long to reach this, Known in my heart of hearts, too late. An empty kiss, sinking so low, I watch the dead sun greet its fate. I look down to the blistered palms, Oars dropped, adrift, wondering why In windless psalms, the scars ring true, All I’ve left to offer—a sigh. As over the edge, I follow Yielding not an ounce of protest To the hollow of dying pledge, A fading echo in my chest. Michael Anderson 11/05/2020 |

Michael...Not sure if I should read this as it sounds, lost love and the sea or is there a deeper meaning to it like living life with no direction or purpose until the sea swallows you up forever. Maybe the sea represents life as a whole. Anyway my friend I enjoyed this very much even if you put a little misdirection in it...Paul ~~To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you~~ |

Hmm . . . don't see the sea at all except as analogy - see, rather, loves loss trailing through the mind, especially as one gets older, trying to piece together the clues leading to its loss. I see old(er) folks reliance on memory questioning how one got to this point . . . seeing - a trick of the mind when years of experiences try to capture the past. Well - I though that sounded pretty good, true or not . . . " Smile, my friend! j. |

I could be wrong here. I see aging and madness both separately and simultaneously. I read it three times and something struck differently every time. Either way I see observation, acknowledgment, and acceptance. What I can't quite figure out is the emotion behind the acceptance. Apologies if my ability to "see" seems off. I really need more poetry and pip doses. Better to self medicate with words and sharpen my mind instead of claws. ![]() "I know this love will tear me to pieces |
