Innocence Lost By Paul Wilson To recapture innocence lost To some back seat Romeo Going further than she wanted to go Consequences…she didn’t know Abandoned by her family Friends no longer came around Only choice… to leave town Packed a bag caught a Gray Hound The glow of city lights Mesmerized this innocent child Lost in the cracks of darkness Like so many others defiled Days spent looking for handouts Nights spent looking for a place to rest Fighting predators of the night Praying she didn’t become one of the dispossessed No money…no food to eat No choice to make but one Back to the streets each night Doing what she must a new life begun Each street corner a new chance awaits Men walking by give her a smile As they leer at her from head to toe She ask…would you like to party for awhile? She dreams of going back home To family and friends one day Then when the Sun goes down She goes back to the streets to play To recapture innocence lost To some back seat Romeo Going further than she wanted to go Consequences…she didn’t know Copy Right 9-24-2020 ~~To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you~~ |

Glad to see someone reference Greyhound. Wonder how man even remember it's significance in the USA. I've a whole series of pieces based on and called Riding the Greyhound. Enjoyed this piece, my friend, and NOT just because of the nostalgia it sparked. j. |

James...Thanks so much for reading and your reply. Glad you enjoyed it. Glad I could rekindle your memories about Gray hound Buses. Many a people use to ride them. I remember if a person wanted to go to a big town for shopping and didn't drive they would have to catch the Gray Hound bus. Take care my friend...Paul ~~To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you~~ |

Well done! Back alley Juliets aren’t colorful Dickensian characters or Eliza Doolittles singing ‘Wouldn’t It Be Loverly’. No, no, they’re walking, talking tragedies, and there’s probably many really going through the ringer out there as we speak. You got it right. |

Haha. I have to laugh cause I remember the Riding the Greyhound pieces Jimmy spoke of. They fell around the time I went across country on a Greyhound myself. It was an adventure like no other. So far as the loss of innocence, the choice and motivations that lead some down that road I will never be able to fathom. Have known a few, and the hollow within some seems unfillable. Always leaves one to wonder how bad it could have been where they came from to not want to go running back. Michael |

Definitely a stark tale here. I think sometimes it could be difficult home situations that motivate runaways and it could be shame and fear of rejection by loved ones. The horrors that fear causes can be powerful. Enjoyed! "I know this love will tear me to pieces |

Lady T...Thanks spo very much for reading and your reply. Many situations can be the cause of young people running away and that sometimes is worse than the reason why they ran. Have you heard from Michael? ~~To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you~~ |
