A King’s Ransom It wasn’t thorns, nor was knives To draw blood from my head. Nor the curse of a thousand lives That I have walked through dead. ‘Wasn’t the weight of iron drums, Nor blemished gloriole, Just a whisper that Silence thrums, Read from a darkened scroll. Deep winds rush through, strength in design, To grant lost hope a burst. The passion burns as turpentine, But cannot slake this thirst. Beneath the dim lit lover’s moon I charge the fields of snow. The love-lies-bleeding aptly strewn Across my walk of woe. The castle there, before me now, I feel it is my call. Though ‘know I will not humbly bow, Traipsing this somber hall. Crushed velvets roll ‘fore marbled gods Who pay me witness here, Crease alongside the unseen nods That I might disappear. The price been paid I bear the weight, Without a choice to make. Decisions, payable to Fate, Ever mine to forsake. I cross the threshold, weak and wan, All eyes turn in on me. Announcement read from parchment drawn, The blind man comes to see. As there she stands, my soul’s delight, Bearing rewards for quest; Asparkle, this crisp woven night I’ve come at her behest. A scepter, that of fool or king? Powerless to control. A dark stone placed in tarnished ring, And the crown to break my soul. Michael Anderson |

Michael...What a wonderful tale you weave with your words. Really enjoyed the theme of this. The conquering hero sort of story. Reminds me of Moses and everything ne went through. The Ten Commandments is the first religious theme movie I ever saw. Thanks for sharing with us...Paul ~~To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you~~ |

Michael, How Enchanting, felt as if I were in a medieval movie eagerly awaiting each scene. Sky~ ~ Cherish Everything ~ |

Not so much of a conquering hero so much as a conqueror come to find out he was a pawn type of story I think, Paul. Truthfully was just a list of phrases I tried to incorporate into a single poem...there was no real thought or image behind it. I am glad it got your seal of approval though. Ten Commandments was the first religious movie I ever saw too. Still ranks pretty high in my book as I can recall quite a bit of it though haven't seen it since I was a child. Michael |

Feels like dark magic and the weight of questions in the air. Whether you meant to or not you've painted quite the scene. "How much is real? So much to question |

I absolutely love the first stanz - a poem in itself. We just finished watching the four "Airport" movies, 1970's era, over dinner four nights in a row. Loved them - had forgotten how well done they really were (basically, IMO, puts today's "diaster" movies to shame. Ten Commandments, yeah - Epic! Again, enjoyed this . . . j. |

James, good to see you. At first I thought you were speaking of the “Airplane” movies. Then I remembered the Airport ones you are speaking of. Yeah, movies back then didn’t have the amazing plethora of plot-holes today’s movies do, and truthfully I think the actors gave a little more effort into knowing the script and the characters. Glad you enjoyed, and thank you. Michael |
