Two clematis vines grow side by side up trellises on the front porch. They look dead as a door nail until a magic day in spring when leaves of green start to sprout from the gnarled brown. New runners stretch out to ensnare a porch chair and railing nearby. One vine climbs to the roof twisting long and narrow as it grows. The other is only half its height and twice as full. They both bloom big white blossoms that seem to appear overnight. They are the official heralds that Spring has returned to the front porch and that it is safe for the houseplants to come out and play. |

Ahhh . . . A masterful job of describing the clematis' heralding sweet, sweet spring . . . ~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~ |

Thanks Jerry, It is funny how one has climbed up to the roof and over and the other one only goes half way. been like that for years. The smaller one blooms more. ~L |

I marvel at the intellect and resilience of plants. Vines in particular...all those little fingers reaching out so carefully like a climber scaling a tall cliff. With no apparent 'eyes', they just seem to know where to go. Spring is happening and you wrote of it well. Pass the Glade if you're going to do that here... |

Thanks Lee J, Yes, it is a miracle of shapes, sizes and colors and ridiculous weather. ~L |

Thanks PU, Spring is an inspiring time of year. After winter has grown old and claustrophobic, just the warm breezes of Spring can conjure a poem. ~L |
