The Bard and the Muse

A rhyme, sublime by candlelight, with a fog rolling in.
A timeless chime, dark as midnight—a mesmerizing din.
Her voice, no choice but to rejoice, oh, how it spoke to me.
One dance, no chance; a backwards glance to chase eternally.

Mists thickening, pulse quickening, it awakened the soul.
The stars aligned, the fates consigned, and I lost all control.
Thoughts soon immersed—whispers well versed, I felt the tension give;
And lay will down to sweet renown, a song by which to live.

A seed, a bleed—relentless need, the shaking hand found quill.
With tumblers keyed, and hopes now freed, never again to still.
To rage, to sing, to blindly bring the passions to the fore.
If by heart held, or dream compelled in unquelled search for more!

The time been lost seen worth the cost, a haze of inspiration.
The blood, the tears, the wasted years alone my celebration.
The light held back donning my black, guided ‘her eldritch tones,
Till did occur a thought to stir the marrow of my bones.

How long since eyes beheld sunrise?  Would this be mine to say?
If I but know where lost hopes go to die, and dreams to fray.
This voice I frame, has she a name—this touch I’ve never felt?
Why would I chase this unseen face, while watching all life wilt?

Is this will sought, or just quill caught, this truest love in life?
This woe, this grief, this no relief—these years accounted strife?
I gave all up to share her cup—my grail of sanctity:
A rhyme sublime, to outlive time... the Bard, and Misery.

I'm glad you liked it Sky~.  I knew something would come of that line when I read it, but truthfully it led down a pretty dark path once I started writing though.  Toned it down a lot,  maybe too much.  Never used to worry about things like that.  I must really be getting old.

Fun to write this one anyhow. Thank you, again.

Came back to walk through the mist of this..
while it pours rain outside, found it's kinda
nice to read Good Poetry with rain & thunder.

You're not 'old' dear Poet, & this was just
how it was meant to be,
Enjoyed my 2nd read..I'm sure I'll be back
for more.

I can't really do anything but give a huge **sigh** here. What drips from your pen is magic no matter what.

Thank you all for the kind replies.

Always love a good challenge phrase, Paul.

No sighs aloud, Jenn!  Don't make me spank you!

No greater compliment than having my words called musical, yann. Ty

The Dance between Bard and Muse is one that never stops. . .the music always plays.

Well done here. . .
