The Little Things Studious observation, Painstaking absorption. No detail escapes her Except maybe one. Self-scrutiny has its merits, Keeps one protected. Makes it easy to hold Those devils, such as hope, at bay. It’s not need that matters after-all, But presentation. An undotted I is unforgivable, Though quickly forgotten If belonging to another. She’s so much harder on herself. Fixating on the little things, She convinces herself She’s not worthy of notice… Does all she can to deflect it, Even as she notices everything About…well, everything. The fact she sees so much Walks hand-in-hand with empathy, Proving both blessing and a curse. A life of hurt handed her, She can’t help desiring To heal the hurt in others. Possible or not she has to try, And maybe, just maybe, While all her passion Pours into the attempt In the heat of the moment, She won’t judge herself so harshly. If only such moments could bring her To see the one fact of life I am almost certain she has missed. My God, she is beautiful! Michael Anderson 5/30/2020 |

This is beautiful and definitely powerful. It's difficult for people to see the beauty in themselves. Whether that is a good or bad thing depends on life's situations I suppose. I stopped most attempts at healing people a long time ago. They usually heal a little then break again thus breaking both. Pedestals are precarious places to be. I was never comfortable with the ones I was placed on. If someone experiences it indirectly. That's another thing entirely. Loved this. Your writing always did make me really concentrate and think.

Heh, I held off on posting this thinking it didn't feel exactly perfect as I hoped it could be. Maybe you identified the reason for me with your "I stopped most attempts at healing people a long time ago. They usually heal a little then break again thus breaking both." statement. Maybe I overthunk it some. I definitely had you pegged for the pedestal hater I knew you were. |

Micheal, It is perfect. I don't think there is any way you could write something that isn't. I attempt healing indirectly I think. A lot of times it's without meaning to. Patterns sometimes go on without my immediate realization of them. I just try to be there. There is an old post somewhere here regarding pedestals, but it may be some of my bad buried 90's poetry. ![]()

Michael... Reminds me of someone that was that way. Just a simple person with more beauty than I could imagine, but with her it never was about beauty, she just wanted other people to like he for her self caring and helping heart. Enjoyed...Paul ~~To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you~~ |

Lori, I just spend way too much time in the shadows watching, instead of actually stepping forth and living. See way too much, act on it not nearly enough. |

Paul, beauty inside is far more magnetic than that of the outside in this plastic world we live in. The most beautiful people in the world in many cases don't see it in themselves. |

Michael...Thanks for your input into my feelings. Many years ago I said this was becoming a plastic world in many ways including relationships. People just throw away relationships like they throw away a PLASTIC bag. Seems like they never try to make things work, while others give it 100% but they are few and far between. Take care my friend...Paul ~~To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you~~ |
