Slashes I used to paint in shadow. I used to bleed in ink. Today I’m just not sure how To process all I think. I used to be more daring— Challenge the reaper grim, Who looked on, never caring That I somehow saw him. In vain, I thought it my curse To be, by death, ignored. My protestations in verse, I drew as if a sword. The slashes but lost whispers, Futility embraced. Questions finding no answers, Forgotten and replaced. All passions in me drifting, I dwelled but a short while ‘Til, like memories sifting, Most were granted exile. A time lost to indifference? Yes, tell yourself that lie. When death loses reverence. It’s then you catch his eye. So now it is death finds me, Challenge in me withdrawn. Today, I finally see The life I gave up on. The moments that I wasted— Things I let slip away. The smiles I never tasted, Dreams once held gone astray. I offer you no denial. I leave with no complaint, If saddened no more worthwhile Things were found with this paint. For life holds more perspective Than most let themselves see, May this slash prove reflective. Please, friend, see more than me. Michael Anderson 04/11/2020 |

Michael...I read this masterpiece in a very solemn way. I could say you have written my life as of lately and exactly how I feel. I hope you are well my friend and this is only a reflection of not knowing what the future holds for us. Take care my friend and brother in heart and poetry...Paul ~~To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you~~ |
