All of the memories are mine now...
mine alone.
Suddenly, the final vestige
of my youth disappeared
into the void.
That spirit has flown
over that far away horizon
with all that we had known
of the past
and the shadows spread
over the comfort of the familiar
that I gently tend
here in the shade
where the memories come and go
like the whisper of wind.

"mine alone."

That line says it all.  In this race we run, we somehow convince ourselves those who run the further or longer are somehow the winners, but oh what a toll reaching the end alone can be.  I relate to this one well, Ida...especially the tending of memories that come and go.
