Like banefire on a hillside
these latter days, I flicker
between memory and wish.
Lost, it seems,
to all my after dreams.

Strawberries yield to apples,
but cider's not my drink.

I wonder why I bothered
to climb this pile of rocks;
why I thought the clatter
worth the drop.

Whether it be cider or the drop, it's the thrill one gets - inside.

Thanks, Sky and j, for looking at this one and commenting.  j, you're right, it's the thrill that matters.

Wow...you convey an amazing image with very few words.  Very powerful ending.  Takes apathy to whole new level.
