Cancer

Rooms grow silent upon entry,
I never let that dissuade me.
Quick, dart to the corner to fade,
A prominent shadow displayed.

Never one to seek a wide berth,
Blown here or there, across this earth—
It’s when I catch I’ll sink my claws
And bring your world to a pause.

Each day, press a bit further on,
Till the resistance is all gone
While funneled ‘long this fruitless ride,
I’ve slowly sapped you of your pride.

Jury still out?  Don’t look within,
To what lies in wait, ‘neath your skin
As it sags—starts to fall from bone,
As you bequeath an endless moan.

A destiny one can’t avert,
Treatment an equal or worse hurt.
You’ll think in terms of “last resort”—
Will await Death, a fine escort.

So should you see me drawing near,
‘Would be best to just disappear.
Rather than face this plague to man.
Cause I'll kill slowly, if I can.

Michael...I sincerely hope this isn't about you my friend .Cancer is never easy to accept, having lost two brothers to it and a third fighting the battle as I write this.
Be well my friend...Paul

Cancer has touched many of us, Michael.I lost my daughter to cancer when she was only 34. I have had cancer myself but was lucky it was caught early. Cancer's touch is not a gentle touch and soulwrenching for the victims and their families. I pray that one day we will be free of this awful diasease.

I am normally not a fan of rhyming poetry; however, this has proven me wrong.
I see it as less literal than others, although, I am an old man and am probably wrong.
Great write

No, Paul, this isn't about me personally, though has deep roots within my family.  Cancer claimed my father when I was 23.  Now has it's claws in my mother, who herself lost two sisters to it last year. it's a disease that stirs deep anger within me, so much so I question if I really should have posted this. So needed the purge though.

I join you in your prayers that one day we will be cancer free, Ida.  Horrible the way it hollows a person, and their families.

Glad you enjoyed this, Ringo.  Thank you for the read.
