Fairytale Jack~

She knew nothing of him,
except his need to run,
the short and far between visits,
a suitcase of secrets,
and his love for taverns
with names like the
"Wander-In",
"Waggin'-Tongue",
and his favorite, the "State-Bar"..
its front jutted out like a broken jaw
to the street,
with a bar-fly windbreak
because it was just so gusty
and cold on that hill.

Sobs of a mother in the night,
when she thinks it's late enough,
safe enough..not to be heard.
Young girl tosses in her bed,
darkness mocking,
while the seed of distrust
burrows ever so deep,
men always leave...

Creased photograph of a handsome
young stranger
balancing a rocky cliff,
the way he must have lived
out his days she imagines.
Rumors he'd disappeared
into another life,
she hopes he left Them
a little more than indifference,
more than just a hint of old spice
in the doorway,
and a fairytale book
he never read to her.

Great stuff here Sky!
The way you craft a phrase makes for a compelling story to read! Enjoyed this one despite the little knife in the heart. ~L

"Rumors he'd disappeared
into another life, "

I think he was spotted on the Bridge of Sighs.  Very well-framed out expression here.  truly enjoyed.

Sky...Many a broken heart has felt the pain and loneness of which you write. I can relate to this great poem very much...Paul
