I hear voices softly calling…
Beckoning to walk down mem’ry lane.
Voices from a misspent past-
Voices wracked with misery and pain-

Voices of lost lovers-
Voices of those friends I never had;
Telling of my choices, rarely good-
Almost always bad.

Voices of my family-
Most of them were dead before their time.
Victims of a lifestyle-
Eulogized in these few lines of rhyme.

Voices always calling-
A certainty on which I can depend…
Never ceasing voices-
Voices that will haunt me to the end.

So sadly profound, John.
