We’ve heard it too many times that war is hell. It rolls off our ears with hardly a trace or pang of remorse or grief. Unless it has touched us too close to home. Then hell hardly begins to describe it. Hell is different for everyone. It tortures with impunity. War has been a timeless endeavor. When was there ever a time without one happening somewhere? When was there ever a time it didn’t leave a legacy of loss borne by both sides? When did it not leave wounds that didn’t heal? When did we not wish there never be another? Heroes, everyone that went. Heroes, everyone that returned, be they sound and whole or not. Maybe someday hell will no longer call heroes to suffer through it. On this day we remember those Heroes who have, and try to thank them for the things we can not begin to imagine. LGR(C)11/11/18 |

The title grabbed me and wouldn't let go for a few minutes. Then it did. Then I was able to read your poem about our heroes and hell. I have to agree with you, my friend,"Hell is for Heroes" for sure. ~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~ |
