Kiss At The Corner

It’s come to this,
hasn’t it?
The sidewalks
we raced down
as kids – that first
kiss
before we even knew
what a kiss was . . .
our parents touched lips,
they said Eskimos
touched noses . . . we
had to try –
Nothing’s ever
been the same,
since

Tomorrow’s the first day
of the rest of our lives,
together – we hold one another
tight, tonight,
praying that what we’re
doing, is right,
will last forever.

Our bodies mesh so tight
the skin between us
almost burns –
I stare into your eyes,
you see me back,
fear sparkles damply
in yours, is reflected,
in mine.

I get out of bed,
you follow – barefoot
we run to the door,
down the porch steps –

and we race down the sidewalk,
kiss at the corner,
running, laughing
all the way back,
and jump in a tangle
back into bed.

Yeah – tomorrow is going to be
for the rest of our lives.

I haven't been here for years. This is the first thing I read and I believe I'll have to come back and read a lot more of your work. It is wonderful.
