I'm the irresponsible father who spiraled out of orbit while you were still in your mother's belly I left you with my DNA sometimes misguided dreams how could you possibly know I wished more for you if I could remake those years I'd rip the calendar apart when I wasn't with you I'd sing you goodnight songs tease your hair until you closed your eyes and slept as the shadows melted away if I could remold your life I'd make it shine every day and a sense of wonder and joy would replace all the pain and sorrow if I could, Paula, my child I'd construct a map of certain wonders and I'd walk with you laughing and singing to a new place every day if I could, Paula I would change what I've done. I understand your remorse Jerry, there is nothing worse than the quilt of believing our actions (or lack of) has hurt our child. I see it in my daughter everyday. I know what it is to want with all your heart to take it all back and do it over. ~L |

True, heartfelt repentance, is one the few things, perhaps the only thing, that retains its great value whether it is accepted by someone or rejected. Many of us leave behind us a trail of tears and we're powerless to alter time to change all that occurred and the things we've done. That's a given. But your words of true, heartfelt repentance as related in your poetry, Jerry...make it as right as it can be made. It takes one hell of a man to say what you said here. It's the measure of your manhood, my friend. Do be well. ...just bein' Bluesy |

"But your words of true, heartfelt repentance as related in your poetry, Jerry...make it as right as it can be made." I guess you are right, Bluesy, but somehow that it just doesn't seem enough. Thank you for your heartfelt comments. ~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~ |

Your hearts in the right place my friend - and there's nothing like age to show our flaws. Been there - j. |

I know you are right, but it doesn't seem enough. But you are 100%, absolutely and positively correct when you said, "there's nothing like age to show our flaws." Thanks for the review of my poem. ~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~ |
