What is it about love
that makes me feel
so desperate
that I must pursue it,
pamper and persuade it,
rather than patiently
let it pursue me?
Because there is always
a chance that it won’t?
Why must I hold on to it
so tightly that it leaves me
with an empty fist?
What is it about love
that makes me
Impatient for intimacy,
the kind that has
nothing to do with sex,
and everything to do
with making love?

Loved this poem, Lori. "Love." Such an insignificant looking word which can cause wars of all kinds.

You "pursue it" because you want it.
No one pursues what they don't want.

Perhaps it is. Maybe you should 'stop', and let it catch up to you.

To offer love and not have it reciprocated means the one you've offered it to
is not the one you need...or the one who needs you.
