He palmed it away like a second-rate cardsharp; slipped it behind his back where only a lazy conscience saw his selfish sleight of hand. He spoiled the auburn-autumn sheen of youth; cut through sleeping memories like a knife through Sissel's vocal cords. A sin, a sacrilege, a smirking smear on the face of trust. Then, he drank the empty half of full as a whingeing plea to forgiveness. But The Shenandoah had run dry. She loved him, she truly did. And she'd always known that he'd loved Jennifer O'Neill, in The Summer Of '42. But he misunderstood the woman in her; the way that women are. And so he let go; listened to These Are The Days. Told her that Morrison was great, but he'd find his own God: his long-lost father. Boredom wields a weight cosh; a casual strike will bleed the restless. Ruddy trickles of remorse, that run the foolish face of fraud, mark the collar of deceit with an indelible, staining rouge. Perhaps he'll have another drink? Weep a streak of self-pity down those falling cheeks? No, I don't think so, he's simply too tired. |

I heard that too tired bit, Redstart. Sometime the tears are not worth the grief to call them up. I so loved this . . . quote: ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

Beautifully written, but so full of sad thoughts and memories. You're right about the idle mind dredging up past memories. Yet you capture the mood and memory superbly. Enjoyed |

Redstart, I love your thoughts brought up by old movies.I wish I knew what was in the mind of others as they watched those movies that we wanted to be real. Real in a way as they did bring our minds to think and try to improve the thoughts and actions of those old screen idols. Enjoying these recent posts. Best to you, jo [This message has been edited by latearrival (06-07-2014 07:44 PM).] |
