Things Everlasting Pale sunlight on a broken wall dances with the shadows in this place the forest now reclaims, among these ruined hills that time has forgotten and through the grand, solemn calm and stillness just beyond the twilight dawn, where Spring slips by silently without a thought or care. One must wonder who lived and died here and what was the meaning and purpose of their brief-candle lives, much of which were likely spent in laying stone on stone upon stone. Let us hope that they and we have 'built' some things far less tangible but perhaps ever- lasting with compassion, tolerance, acts of random kindness, and most of all unconditional Love. --- b. e. adams (5/31/2014) |

hello, secondhanddreamer, this makes me consider ruins (even roman ones) as temporary artefacts, in comparison of the vasteness and eternity of nature, so people must see beyond their human constructions and cooperate with mother nature, the essence of poetry means that too, I hope i didn't misconduct my reading neither far beyond the beauty of the poem yann |

Ah, the impermanence of all that is built. There is no real meaning but the kind hand that we leave on each other. A thoughtful write. |

The laying of stones will always be our legacy, but if the less-tangible bequests that you mention can rise above their antonyms, they will tell more about us to future generations than archaeology ever could. |
