ahhh . . .
what a wondrous time
even now
as the specter of death
with his grinning skull and bloody scythe
creeps ever closer
there are still things to do
places to see
even conquests yet to conquer
I shan’t
sit absentmindedly by
watching the hands on the clock
tick minutes and days off
no indeed
I will n’er surrender
to the gnashing of teeth
sitting in a chair drooling
no!
stand, clench a fist at Charon
and press on
into the sunset determined
to go into it my way
in my time
my way
I enter the sunset of my days
with contempt
creasing my face
oh yes
while my senses are still sharp
except for that damnable short term memory
I shall spit in death’s grinning face
just as I did
on those mean streets of America
during the two lost decades
alpha and omega
beginning unto the end
yes!
death will claim me
but I will choose the moment
not he
and leave this earth
with a Bronx cheer and the one-finger salute

I really like the 'bucket wish' stubbornness relative to the Grim Reaper. Nothing beats the "Bronx Cheer and one-finger salute"!

Excellent motivator after the snows Jerry.
