this site has almost dried up to nothing . . . I have tried to stay attentive and appreciative but my goodness it has gotten to the point where it is very discouraging ~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~ |

be patient dear poet! You can spend all day paddling in this big blue sea if you choose to do with your prolific self. The rest of us mere hacks can't keep up. Don't blow the candle out yet. ~L |

Whenever I'm here I always get the feeling of being the only person in the middle of a big auditorium. I know there are other places for people like you to visit that I can't see, but they may not be very interesting. It's like walking in on someone's coffee clutch. I wish you'd stay though. I want to die in my sleep like my grandfather...not like the passengers screaming in the back of his car. |

I know you've tried to keep this place alive, I feel bad watching your struggle to do so. I too have tried, as I watched so many jump ship. I wish you had been here when this place was full of wonderful poets combing the sands of this beautiful blue sea. However I arrived late myself and missed the real celebration of poets and poetry by the sea. You might say I arrived at sunset when so many had arrived before the sun came up. Now it feels like a layer of fog that never lifts. |

You described quite well about this site, Blues. When I first got here there were many posting and commenting. Don't know why so many left to go other places, but they did, and like you said, they left a surreal, never lifting fog. ~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~ |

The perceived 'heyday' was very short, like other simple boards. They all had a great social atmosphere, but people & poets get their 'social fix' with other technologies now and have for over a decade. Other poetry sites that some of you belong to, have large populations and one can feel 'lost in the crowd'. One of the most popular features was always a method of communicating 'on the side', you know...personal messages (PM's). They were huge on even the smaller boards, but then, who needs those when you can "text" today? The Model 'A' was a great set of wheels, but you don't see many on the Interstate these days. It could still be "a great set of wheels," Bluesy. It may never again, but it could be, I'm positive. ~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~ |

There are quite a few reasons that poetry sites run dry but by far the main course is the lack of comments. If no one reads your poetry what’s the point of posting? Most site owners know this and try to ensure that for every poem posted the author must reply to two poems to post their own. The other method is to load the site with Mods who do the job for others. We are all subject to changes in our lives whether at work or at home and of course the dreaded writers block and all govern the time we are able to spend online. I note that most boards have never been used for some time; in fact the poetry board is the only one that’s still active, not a good sign. It’s up to you whether you stay or move on to pastures new. There’s not a lot of choice out there, they range from those where anything anyone writes is ‘Absolutely Awesome’ to those who will rubbish anything that doesn’t fit within their little box of understanding. Whatever you decide, the very best of luck. Cari. |

Okay Cari, you convinced me. I almost didn't respond to this, because I thought I had made up my mind. But I was wrong. So I shall stay until the end. Thank you. ~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~ |

I've been a member here since early 2000 and came here from the open news groups where nobody was your friend or so it seemed. Before that poets simply e-mailed each other like pen pals and attended poetry readings at the local libraries. There needs to be an outlet for writers with a real passion for writing. A place to come together for the pleasure of interaction and share the thoughts you're proud of and spread a little laughter while chewing the fat. These walls have have its share of wagon jumpers, but it's always been here for all to come back. The friendly face who remain here are looked upon like family and very much appreciated. |
