where the wild flowers grow

You've heard the song a million times,
but the lyrics are never the same..
The melody waxes and wanes,
and it's stuck in your head again.

Running your fingers along the wrinkles
in your face, in your clothes,
in your sheets
in your memory..

Rooms filled with stagnant, hot air,
open and close and open and close
your eyes, the door, your mind..
you're still here.

The pearls of sweat roll down your forehead,
swinging your legs over the edge of the bed,
but you haven't felt warmth since you walked in,
just cold hard facts and instructions.

That the only difference
between love
and death

is a heartbeat.

Intensely beautiful.
Gosh I have missed your poetic mind.

Whoa! Great write. Didn't see "is a heartbeat." until I had read it twice.
