Used to be when we'd disagree
We would compromise you and me.
If I disagree now you attack
You'd like to have me on the rack.

Whatever happened to taking time
To give and take, not thinking it’s a crime
To have different views, you and I
We're both just ordinary guys.

With wild rhetoric truth is hard to find
And you'll go your way, and I'll go mine
I say, you say, and I'm right you're wrong
It's the same old lackluster song.

People are buying guns and ammo
The government's stopping its flow
Liberals, conservatives have beliefs
Why give each other so much grief.

Take time, listen to each other
You could be talking to your brother
Eye to eye we may never see
But by listening we may find the key.

These days we just try to outshout
Again rhetoric leaves so much doubt
And its so loud we can't hear a word
Its really pitiful and absurd.

Let's go back to the honest debates
If not I have great fear for our fate
If we can't take time to listen soon
It won't be long before its high noon.

Well said! Too much us versus them in our mind sets. Too much rage under the surface.

I like the flow, rhythm and rhyming lines. Form aside, there's much truth to learn here. We need a voice to shout all this to the world

Oh jjote, I of course couldn't agree more. We need a strong voice to bring this message and other messages similiar to this one to the world. Thank you for your kind thouhts.

Hi Jerry. I saw this as not only the heart of your poetry, but some good 'down-home' wisdom that would be prudent for all to follow:
quote:
"Eye to eye we may never see
But by listening we may find the key"
Truer words were never spoken. Wonderful poetry that just plain makes sense. Well done.

Loving Linny Jean is poetry.

Yep, it's all of us. Doing that which evolution has primed us to do. Post-industrial societies will inevitably self-destruct. Goodnight all. We once had allotments, and children who played without fear. x

The last verse says it all.  I think we are almost at that point of "High Noon"

Nice write, Jerry!

Appreciate your serious comment(s) on this poem, JL. I so dread what is coming to America, but don't believe there is anyway to stop it.

You are sadly so right, Redstart, about children who played without fear. I was one of those.

It's all kinda scary and I wish we could all get along but I don't think we ever will. If everyone was like you Jerrypat and spent more time writing they would be too busy to do anything mean.

If I were more than I am, I'd see things differently instead of the same all the time.
