Summer Leaves

The day of summer leaves
Green tender
Dapple dancing
In the warming sun
~
On pollen-dusted shoes
We walk on Brieley Hill
Above our patchwork kingdom
Lent to us for just one day
~
Innocence
Unspoilt by teenage fumbling
Long before the hand of familiarity
Clouds the gift of love
~
Beneath the Willow
The first inquiring kiss
Filed and remembered
For the lonely times
~
The day of summer leaves
When all the world was young
